I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the Columbus, Ohio area. I have had the opportunity to work with children and adolescents from 0 – 18 years old for over ten years. I have worked in a community based setting, in schools, and with the most recent experience being in the hospital setting. I have experience with the following treatment modalities, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered, Play Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Prior to working in mental health, I also have a background in teaching, and one of the reasons that I love working with children and adolescents is being able to see their “lightbulb moments” when they are learning and understanding what is in front of them.
When you walk into the office with me, you will notice that the environment will be warm and welcoming. We will focus on comfortability prior to anything that pertains to treatment. In my treatment experience, I make sure that my sessions are completely tailored to your needs, goals, and interests. At the beginning of the treatment process, the focus of our sessions will be on trust and rapport building, so that I can get to know you and what brings you joy. With children, specifically, if we are working on emotion regulation, and your favorite items are toy cars, majority of the interventions that will be used can have the toy car theme to better help engagement and understanding.
The sessions that I provide have a focus on creating agendas at the beginning of the session, as well as, collaborating with the client/child and parent on what to work on at home in preparation for the next session. I also try to utilize journaling and habit tracking as projects to do before the next session. I believe that preparing for the next visit and having a focus on the core areas of concern, allow for a sense of motivation to want to return to the next session.
